{"id":10192,"date":"2019-06-21T12:07:33","date_gmt":"2019-06-21T17:07:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.maryville.edu\/mpress\/?p=10192"},"modified":"2022-04-26T13:53:46","modified_gmt":"2022-04-26T18:53:46","slug":"maryville-receives-award-from-emerson-to-expand-k-12-stem-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.maryville.edu\/mpress\/maryville-receives-award-from-emerson-to-expand-k-12-stem-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Maryville Receives Award From Emerson to Expand K-12 STEM Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>91制片厂 has received an award of $100,000 from Emerson to support its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maryville.edu\/ca2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Center for Access and Achievement (CA<sup>2<\/sup>)<\/a>, which provides access to high-quality STEM education for pre-K through 12th grade students and their teachers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe path to lifelong learning begins in early childhood,\u201d said Steve Coxon, PhD, executive director of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maryville.edu\/ca2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CA<sup>2<\/sup><\/a>. \u201cOur goal is to reach children as early as possible and inspire them to reach their full potential.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CA<sup>2<\/sup> supports Maryville\u2019s strategic plan as the beginning of the pipeline from preschool to profession. Traditionally underrepresented students are given the boost they need to succeed in postsecondary education and the careers of the future.<\/p>\n<p>Current partners of CA<sup>2<\/sup> include Ritenour, Jennings, Normandy, Riverview Gardens and Ferguson-Florissant School Districts, Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis and the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The Emerson award, called FutureSTL (Science and Technology Leaders), will allow CA<sup>2 <\/sup>to expand its programming and reach hundreds more children. This includes increasing student enrollment for existing STEM summer camps hosted by CA<sup>2<\/sup> as well as increasing the number of teachers at those camps. Teachers serve as camp assistants and learn technologies and strategies from Maryville faculty to take back to their classrooms.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the Emerson award will help expand Maryville\u2019s STEM Education Certificate Program. Participants learn to integrate STEM into the classroom with research-based best practices led by expert educators in the field.
