What\u2019s your Maryville experience?
\n<\/em>The challenges I experienced while securing my degree provided me with a sense of gratitude for the value of my education, reminding me to never take anything for granted. My journey took a unique path that deepened my appreciation for the college experience. It also provided me the opportunity to explore different aspects of myself and seek guidance from various individuals who contributed to what Maryville represents.<\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s your favorite Maryville memory?<\/em>
\nI have countless memories that stand out to me, but one of the most significant aspects of my early experiences was how I formed relationships. I spent a considerable amount of time in the computer lab at Mouton Hall. I would always find a way to have random conversations with whoever sat next to me. This approach ultimately gave me the confidence to interact with people at Maryville in any setting. I didn’t realize at the time how much those relationships I built during my freshman year would assist me in reaching my goals.<\/span><\/p>\n

What are you doing now?
\n<\/em>I started a private practice called Almeta\u2019s Porch Counseling in 2024 which provides old school values with a modern approach. I also have been serving in the Army Reserves for almost 10 years in the Unit Ministry Team supporting Chaplains and enlisted soldiers. When I am not serving others through ministry and counseling, I love being a wife and mother and take my family time seriously, which was another factor in starting my own business to have the flexibility and time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Additional goals and aspirations?
\n<\/em>I want to expand my business by hiring other therapists and helping develop them in this field through mentorship and supervision. I would also like to be a consultant for larger organizations that have mental health programs to assist the construction and improvement of documentation, trainings, and employee wellness initiatives. I know ultimately going down this trajectory in my career will give me greater access to make change.<\/span><\/p>\n

How did your education and experience at Maryville help you?<\/em>
\nBeing at Maryville was a pathway to embrace creativity and learn how to express myself authentically. It also showed me the strength of learning about other people and building community. Without the community that I intentionally created within my time at Maryville, it would not have been as rich and fulfilling. The context of utilizing my education gave me the chance to tap into those weaknesses and learn how to cultivate new experiences that would give me the power to understand my purpose. <\/span><\/p>\n

Words of wisdom for today\u2019s students?<\/em>
\nOne question I often ask in therapy is, “How are your actions serving you right now?” Regardless of whether you view your actions as negative or positive, they serve a purpose in your life. By exploring this aspect, you can gain greater self-awareness regarding your ability to achieve success, manage your emotions, and understand yourself as you develop within the college space.<\/span><\/p>\n
