91制片厂\u2019s fifth annual #1000Saints basketball night at Moloney Arena raised more than $37,000 for Kids Rock Cancer, far surpassing a fundraising goal of $20,000.<\/p>\n

\u201cKids Rock Cancer is thrilled to be the beneficiary of proceeds from this event,\u201d says Liz Haynes, director of special programs. \u201cIt’s exciting to see the community come together in support of the program. The funds raised will be instrumental\u00a0in bringing the healing power of music to kids and their families with cancer and other blood disorders.\u201d<\/p>\n

The #1000Saints event, held Feb. 24, rallied the Maryville community in support of the men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball teams, while also raising funds for Kids Rock Cancer. The annual tradition calls for 1,000 fans\u2014students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends\u2014to pack Moloney Arena, home of Saints basketball, for a double-header. Nearly 1,400 fans were in attendance to see the men’s team<\/a> win 79-71 over cross-town rival University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). The women’s team<\/a> fell 70-64 to the UMSL Tritons.<\/p>\n

Faculty, staff and students also contributed to Kids Rock Cancer by making donations during lunch during the week prior to the event. As donations were collected, names were written on red guitar and star cut-outs and displayed on a wall in Gander Dining Hall.<\/p>\n
