The Maryville men’s soccer<\/a> team has captured the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship title earning an automatic berth into the 2018 NCAA Division II Soccer Championships. This marks the program’s second consecutive bid to the tournament. The Saints won a shootout victory over Bellarmine to claim the title.<\/p>\n

The fifth-seeded Saints will travel to Tiffin, Ohio, to take on No. 4 seed Ohio Valley Friday, Nov. 9, at Noon ET (11 a.m. CT). The Saints fell to the Fighting Scots 2-0 in a non-conference match-up in September. The winner of Friday’s match will take on No. 1 seed Tiffin at noon ET (11 a.m. CT), on Sunday, Nov. 11.<\/p>\n

The NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament is divided into two three-team regional single-elimination brackets, which are hosted in Tiffin, Ohio, and Evansville, Indiana. The other three team bracket is at No. 2 seed Southern Indiana and will feature No. 3 seed Saginaw Valley and No. 6 seed Ashland.<\/p>\n

The winners of both the Tiffin regional and the Evansville regional will play at the home of the winner of the Central Region in the Third Round of the Championship Nov. 15-16, while the winner of that match-up will face the winner of the Central regional in the quarterfinals Nov. 17-18. The quarterfinal winner will meet at the NCAA Championships Thursday, Nov. 30 , at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa., with the championship game set for Saturday, Dec. 1.<\/p>\n

The Saints won the GLVC crown with a 10-4-5 record. The conference championship was the first title for Maryville since joining the league.<\/p>\n

Senior\u00a0Christian Kjaersgaard<\/a>\u00a0and junior\u00a0Helmut Florencia<\/a>\u00a0of the men’s soccer team were named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference first team as voted upon by the league’s coaches. In addition, sophomore\u00a0JD Sohn<\/a>\u00a0was named to the league’s second team, while juniors\u00a0Zulfikar Karimi<\/a>\u00a0 and\u00a0Gavino Carranza<\/a>\u00a0and sophomore\u00a0Iwan Webster<\/a>\u00a0earned third team honors. Kjaersgaard was also named the team’s nominee for the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship award.<\/p>\n
